Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga, Spain in 1881 and died in 1973. Picassos father taught art, so he was exposed to it at a very young age.
By the age of fourteen he found success in being a draftsman and at the age of nineteen he traveled to Paris. In Paris he was exposed to the Old Masters, classical sculptures, impressionism and post impressionism. Throughout his career he would become one of the most revolutionary painters and printmakers, changing art in the west as we know it.
Early in his career he would go through different styles of painting, eventually creating his first masterpiece and the first cubist painting, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. Between 1914 and 1918 he would create realistic paintings, drawings, and do some printmaking.
In the 1920’s he participated in Surrealism, creating abstract figurative work and this would be known as the most productive time in his life.
