Artwork by Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso’s father taught art, so he was exposed to it at a very young age. By the age of 14 he found success as a draftsman and at 19 he traveled to Paris. There he was exposed to the Old Masters, classical sculptures, impressionism, and post impressionism. He would become one of the most revolutionary painters and printmakers, changing art in the west as we know it.

Early in his career he went through different styles of painting, eventually creating his first masterpiece and the first cubist painting, Les Demoiselles d ’Avignon. From 1914 to 1918 he would create realistic paintings, drawings, and do some printmaking. In the 1920’s he participated in Surrealism, creating abstract figurative work and this would be known as the most productive time in his life.
