KAWS began his career as a street graffiti artist in Jersey City in the early 90’s and in 1996 he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Illustration from New York’s School of Visual Arts. He then began working as a freelance animator on several Disney blockbuster films including, Doug, 101 Dalmatians, and Daria.

Over the past 15 years, KAWS has exhibited in solo shows in many prominent museums and galleries. His fascination and affinity for cartoon and illustration has carried over to the design and production of limited-edition toys and international collaborations with Nigo for “A Bathing Ape” and redesigned works of iconic characters such as SpongeBob Square Pants, The Michelin Man, and Mickey Mouse. Recently, Kaws has taken to clothing and apparel design for Nike, Vans, Original Fake, Undercover and Uniqlo.

His art is increasingly visible and valued by art dealers, collectors, art galleries and auction houses including, Sotheby’s, Christie’s, Dane Fine Art and Phillips. KAWS currently resides in Brooklyn, NY and is working with the Brooklyn Museum of Art as they organize a major exhibition of KAWS’ work, set to open in 2021.
