Jean Dubuffet

Born: 1901 – Le Havre, France and died in 1985. Jean started his painting career early on, originally imitating the likes of Suzanne Valadon, Raoul Dufy and Fernand Leger. He had much distaste for his early pieces but after a break, he created his own style. After a Paris show later in his career, his work caught the eye of the art world. He was soon labeled as the leader of the Art Brut movement because of his spontaneous work. Dubuffet became well known for mod painting and is hailed as one of the greatest graffitists because he changed the style of art by adding asphalt, pebbles, and glass to add a new depth.
