Andre Hambourg – France – 1909-1999. He studied at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs and the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in the studio of Lucien Simon. In the 1930’s Hambourg was exposed to the modernist movement and related artists while working in the studio of Montparnasse. He was known as “the grand gentleman of French Post-Impressionism” and received the Cross of the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. His post-impressionist luminous landscape and marine paintings are highly collectible. He is also known for his work in various mediums; oil, pastel, watercolor, drawing, lithography, engraving, fresco, ceramics and illustrations.
